Postpartum depression is the most common complication of childbirth. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) is an effective way of checking for depression during this time of life. The maximum possible score is 30 with higher numbers indicating worse distress. It is not a replacement for seeing a doctor.
